Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am running for the position of 'Equality & Diversity Officer' because I believe, inclusivity and diversity within the club is extremely important to me.
I strongly feel that any member of 'Hallam Rowing' old or new should feel included and respected despite; Ability, Age , Faith, Race, Sexual Oreintation or Disability. Taking on a role which supports people, making them feel more comfortable as a part of a team is extremely sincere to myself.
I have previous experience in club support, being a role model within a Karate club (2013-2017) Here I would support and listen to issues from lower grades of all ages and backgrounds and report back to club leaders. Over the past year I have been a student course rep, within this role I have been listening to student feedback and concerns regarding the illustration course. I feel more reliable and confident because of this and believe these skills i have learnt will aid me for the following role.
If elected i would aim to:
Be a main point of contact for club members : Speak and support confidently with any issues regarding equality within the club, introducing confidential chat sessions.
Ensure transparency : Making sure no one is left behind with club activities. Especially with run up to races, welfare coffe socials could be a relaxed way to discuss the club in groups.
Promote Equality: During recruitment events, welcome anyone to join the club, experience or not!
I believe all these points will have a positive imapact on Rowing at Hallam. Supporting and building the morale of club members is something I would really like to contribute to the club.
I am always easy to contact and approach, I'd like to make sure that members dont feel overworked and most importantly are enjoying being apart of a team.
Please feel free to ask my any questions about my ideas!!
