Good Yard SHUSnow,
So, after an amazing year as your Vice President I’ve decided to run to be your President in the upcoming year!
I’ve been hooked on SHUSnow since my first free food almost 4 years ago (it helped having a sister in the society), and I’ve loved every second of it, from the mental holidays and the racing competitions, all the way to the little get togethers at the Tav. Being your Vice President and being able to give back to the club has been so rewarding, and I’d love to do the same as your President.
I want to run for President because both SHUSnow, and the wonderful people in it, have been such an important part of my life since I came to university. Those that have known me since I was a wee fresher will know that I have changed so much over the past 4 years, and so much of that is from both the wonderful committee and members, and the amazing support that they have given me. This year I have tried to guarantee that everyone receives this and has just as much of an awesome time as I’ve had.
I think I’m a great choice for your President as I’ve got 4 years club experience, and experience working with all the other committee members, which means I know how our events are ran and what makes our members have an awesome time! I’ve also been so fortunate to work with Maya this year in a supporting role with both NUCO and Wasteland meaning that I have a really good insight into the role of President and the responsibilities that come with it, as well as great contacts with NUCO, Wasteland, Sheff Ski, SUSC! I’ve also learnt what to watch out for when planning our amazing ski trips! As well as this, I’m a walking megaphone so I can always be heard, I always do my best to attend everything and be the last one standing at our events!
What I want to try and achieve next year:
Ø We’ve had great attendance at Kings and Buds this year! I want to work with the Treasure and Race Captain to make sure this continues by encouraging both old and new members to attend and compete! Kings and Buds have so much to offer whether you are spectating or being speedy on the racecourse!
Ø Work with the Freestyle Captain to encourage more members to try their hand at freestyle! I’m no freestyle expert, but what I do know is that the scariest part is giving it a go for the first time! Making sure our members will have the opportunity to try freestyle skiing is so important as it’s half our Varsity points!
Ø Do my best to be the Wikipedia of all things SHUSnow for both the new committee and our members!
Ø Work with the Social Secretary to evaluate our sponsorship portfolio, work with both old and new sponsors, and ensure our members receive the best possible deals.
Ø Ensure that all our events are published as soon as possible. I feel this is crucial as earlier notice of events will help maximise attendance!
Ø Do everything I can to give you an A2A trip to remember! With Pas De La Casa being my 6th SHUSnow ski trip (and having had a hand in organising Avoriaz and Pas) I think I’m the man for the job!
Ø Our social media presence this year has grown rapidly, and I was so privileged to be a part of that. I want to work with the Media Secretary to ensure that this continues into next year, as social media has helped us grow our society this year!
Ø I want to create a super friendly atmosphere for freshers, but a rowdy one when it needs to be ??. Be super loud and proud and always be the last one in the club ??.
