I have a passionate belief in fostering a team culture and spirit within women’s lacrosse which every player enjoys being a part of the collective and looks forward to playing in week on week. Sports clubs at Sheffield Hallam are renowned for their successful fundraising for invaluable charities and delivering on the core principles of putting others first and looking after those most in need in the local community. This is something as Charity and Wellbeing officer for women’s lacrosse next year I would be very enthusiastic about building on further. My attitude both on and off the lacrosse pitch is of determination, perseverance and optimism, all three characteristics being essential I believe to succeeding in this role. Off the pitch I would also be equally be dedicated to the team in making the experience that comes with raising money and awareness for charities as good as it could be for each player. Whilst carrying out the role as Charity and Wellbeing officer, I will endeavour to utilise my organisational skills which are vital when conducting fundraising and events for a club the size of women’s lacrosse. A principal goal for next season as Charity and Wellbeing officer I would hope to achieve is for each player at the end of the year to look back on a season full of positive moments off the field (as well as on of course!) where they feel honoured to have given back and done something for the greater good no matter how big or small it is. By acting together as a team beyond just playing on the lacrosse pitch, I believe we can really make a difference and help the local community. Whether this is helping to address food poverty with continuing the weekly Foodbank collections and the Shoe box appeals to raising awareness of mental health to name a few. One proposed fundraising idea for next year includes hosting our own ‘sleep out’ where as a team for just one night we give up our beds and sleep outside in unison, displaying solidarity with and showing support to those experiencing displacement and homelessness in Sheffield. Another would be as a team participating in a colour run. This event combines colour with the atmosphere of a music festival and the thrills of an obstacle course, bringing to life the most fun, memorable run whilst simultaneously raising money for an incredible cause. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a bit of dancing to good tunes with friends? Women’s lacrosse at Sheffield Hallam is a team I am proud to say I am apart of and would feel privileged to take upon the responsibilities of the Charity and Wellbeing officer of the club next year.
