Who am I and why am I running for Treasurer
Hello!! I am Ellie Hough and I am a second year BA Hons International Business student whose modules cover various business areas such business accounting/ finance, marketing, inclusion and diversity within business and organised groups and economics.
SHU Snow has greatly enhanced my uni experience. I started university in 2020 and found it hard to make friendships with people I really connected with due to COVID-19, however SHU Snow has given me the opportunity to make great friendships and learn how to ski (as well as falling over a lot!), which has been a massive positive in my life. I am running for treasurer as I want to work for the club that has given so much to me.
I am an upbeat and organised person who loves going to the Chill Factor Training sessions as well as Molly’s and Blo88 on a Monday, or maybe even Tank if I am feeling like it!
What skills can I bring to the SHU Snow table??
- The ability to produce and understand the income statement.
- I can produce spreadsheets.
- Understanding of how interest rates may affect the club
- Previous experience as head girl and on school councils
- Very sociable person
- Good time keeping, so the invoices get paid on time
- Good team work skills and the ability to contribute to a team
- The ability to budget
- The ability to have a laugh and get stuck in with the socials!!
What ideas do I have for the club moving forward!
-Current treasurer Hugo is hoping to leave £1000 in the SHU Snow bank account. I would like to chat with SHU Snow members and the committee about how this money can be invested so SHU Snow members can get the most out of the SHU Snow experience.
-Supply chain issues have caused fuel inflation!! SHU Snow is currently a social club at Sheffield Hallam and not a sports club. Sports clubs get subsidised travel prices (e.g £80 pound for an entire bus which is £4 a head if 20 people are travelling for example) I would like to get this changed so the club can get more money for travel to places such as the Chill Factore.. Let's save money and become a sports club.
-I shall be working alongside NUCOS to organise the Buds trip this year. The trip involves a 2 night stay in Edinburgh with a competition on the Edinburgh ski slope. How cool is that !! I shall be planning accommodation, transport and after competition activities. I want to work closely with NUCOS to get the best deals possible on all elements of the trip. I would also like to talk to SHU Snow members about what post competition activities they would be interested in.
-I want to work closely with a committee to get sponsors for the club so we can get more money off nights out.
-I want to keep this club as great as it already is and even make it better. I really care about this club and its future!!!
