HOCKEY AT HALLAM

What's on offer?

At Hallam our Men's Hockey club consists of three full BUCS teams: the 1st team competing in the BUCS North Premier A and our 2's and 3's teams also playing at competitive standards on a weekly basis. We now boast no less than 3 former members of the club who competed in the Tokyo 2020 GB Olympic Hockey team. This season we will also have a development team who will play a range of friendlies, giving more people an opportunity to play hockey. We also have links to both Sheffield and Rotherham hockey clubs who play on weekends for anyone who wants additional chances to play. 

Regardless of ability you will have the opportunity to get stuck into a large, friendly club tied closely with the excellent Women's Hockey section, with a strong, well organised and consistent social environment and a dedicated committee. 

Hockey and Social Events 

Our training sessions and home games take place at:

Abbeydale Sports Club: @Abbeydale Rd S, Sheffield S17 3LJ

Training: Monday Evenings

- Followed by a social catchup at our sponsor Champs Sports Bar. Where you can enjoy time with everyone else in the Hockey club.

Games: Wednesday Afternoons

- After which we all gather together to celebrate or commiserate the days events, dress up in silly costumes and have a good time. 

- All our teams also compete in Cup competitions during the year, in addition to the competitive BUCS leagues.

- To cap off the year is the all important Varsity games. Taking place in March they pit the entire Hockey club against their counterparts at the University of Sheffield. During the last two occasions the Men's club has achieved 4 outstanding wins and 2 close draws, and we aim to achieve another 3 victories in 2022.

Other Events: Throughout the year we also partake in numerous other events including but not limited to...

- Meeting the members of other hockey clubs and travelling to other cities to watch our teams play.

- Pasta nights before a game to socialise and rest before the next day. In addition to hearty cooked breakfasts beforehand.

- Christmas dinner at an excellent curry house reserved just for us.

- DWL, our flagship charity event that takes place at the end of January in honour a previous member of the club Dave Lewis.

- End of season dinner at a fine restraunt where we recap and celebrate the year with the entire club.

Social Sport

Even if you have never touched a hockey stick come down and get invovled! All you'll need is a pair of astroturf suitable shoes and some shinpads. Gumshields are recommended as well. Sticks, balls and coaches are all provided. No matter how much experience you've had everybody is welcome to all social events that we host so you'll get the opportunity to meet dozens of new people and potentially lifelong friends.

Social/Development  - Membership and access to the full social sport program. With the opportunity to move into the competitive teams - £50

Team Hallam - Full access to everything the club provides and includes Training, Kit, Coaching, Transport, Match Fees and Umpires- £130

Team Hallam Ultimate - All of the above in addition to an Annual Gym membership at the City and Collegiate Campus gyms, Team Strength and Conditioning Sessions, as well as 6 free physio sessions - £260
