The Women's Hockey Club is a large club at Hallam, with 4 teams competing in BUCS leagues and additional opportunities for developing players through intramural leagues and social Rush Hockey sessions. The level of play within the BUCS teams is competitive and the squads are selected through trials held at the start of the year. The club runs in partnership with Sheffield Hockey Club, giving players access to quality coaching and facilities, including the former Olympic hockey pitch housed at Abbeydale Sports Club. New links are also being developed with Rotherham Hockey Club to create opportunities for students to volunteer and coach in the community.
Weekly training sessions are run at Abbeydale Sports Club, and additional hockey facilities are available at Bawtry Road. Matches are typically on a Wednesday afternoon.
Regular Rush Hockey social sport sessions are also run for less competitive and developing players in the Collegiate sports hall. Opportunities available for students to develop coaching skills through leading the sessions as a Student Sport Activator volunteer. (link to social sport timetable)
