The Women's Hockey Club is a large club at Hallam, with 4 teams competing in BUCS leagues and a development team. Additional opportunities for developing players are available through intramural matches and social Rush Hockey sessions. Weekly training sessions are run at Abbeydale Sports Club, and additional hockey facilities are available at Bawtry Road. Matches are typically on a Wednesday afternoon.
The level of play within the BUCS teams is competitive, so team allocation sessions are held at the start of the year. The club runs in partnership with Sheffield Hockey Club, giving players access to quality coaching and facilities, including the former Olympic hockey pitch housed at Abbeydale Sports Club. New links are also being developed with Rotherham Hockey Club to create opportunities for students to volunteer and coach in the community.
Opportunities available for students to develop coaching skills through leading the sessions as a Student Sport Activator volunteer.
Every year, we hold a charity tournament in honour of the late David W Lewis who was a member of Hallam Hockey. The tournament was started by former Hallam Hockey members who were close to Dave and has ran for the past 10 years.
Dave Lewis tragically passed away whilst at Hallam but his name will forever be remembered and this tournament is a fantastic way Hallam Hockey can honour Dave and celebrate his life through a friendly tournament which everyone can be involved in, raising money for the families chosen charity- Help for Heroes.
Register your interest here (link to online sign-up sheet) or at Sports Fair in September to attend team allocation. Teams will be selected by early October.
