Sheffield Bears Ice Hockey Club runs across both Sheffield Hallam University, and the University of Sheffield, with students from both universities competing together in the British University Ice Hockey Association (BUIHA) leagues. The club has teams competing in all five Divisions of the BUIHA league, catering for a wide range of abilities and making them one of the largest university ice hockey clubs in the country. Training is at Ice Sheffield, and is split based on ability so that sessions can be planned and delivered around player development. Trials are held within the first few weeks of term to sort players into teams, and places on the squad can be fairly competitive
During the annual inter-university Varsity tournament the club splits into separate teams from Hallam and University of Sheffield, who compete against each other in front of large crows from both universities.
The club run a couple of 'Give it a Go' sessions each year in semester one, providing opportunity for new players to try out the sport.
Register your interest here (link to online sign-up sheet) or at Sports Fair in September to attend trials. Teams will be selected early on in Semester 1.
£50 club registration fee. £110 - £120 ice fee per term, plus additional match fees.
