SHU Snow is one of the biggest clubs at Hallam, with around 70 members joining each year. The club consists of a wide range of abilities in skiing and snowboarding. From complete beginners to seasoned athletes. SHU Snow prides itself for being extremely friendly and inviting to everyone. In this society you will get the chance to learn to ski/snowboard or improve your current abilities. You'll also have the chance to travel around the UK taking part in competitions and to travel abroad for a week's ski holiday twice a year.
The society also hosts free food and social events every Monday night. On top of this there will be fundraising events throughout the year such as Movember and head shaving for charities such as DSUK (Disability Snowsports UK)
Each week the club visits Snozone, Castleford and many other slopes such as Chill Factor, Manchester and Rossendale Dry slope. Here you can either get lessons in both skiing and snowboarding using hired equipment or you can practise your skills on your own. These sessions also provide the chance to improve their slalom racing and freestyle abilities. Coach travel is provided with these sessions.
Throughout the year the club competes in multiple race and freestyle tournaments in cities across the country such as BUCS, Kings, and BUISC. You are not expected to be a pro in order to compete. These are 3 day trips with coach travel and accommodation already organised. During the competitions you’ll meet and make friends with people from loads of other universities plus make stronger connections with your fellow SHU Snow members.
You'll be given the chance to take your skiing abroad twice a year. Once just before Christmas which is a SHU Snow member only trip and then again at Easter which consists of students from Hallam and Uni Of Sheffield. In previous years the club has visited Avoriaz, Les Deux Alpes, Val Thorens and Val D ‘Isere. Both trips come at an extremely good price which includes travel, accomodation, ski pass and equipment hire.
