WELCOME TO HALLAM TENNIS!
We are a friendly, inclusive club that has 4 teams (3 x men, 1 x women) competing weekly in the Northern British University & College Sport (BUCS) leagues. Players selected for our development squads have the opportunity to play friendly matches against local universities. We also have a weekly social tennis session for those of you that want to play fun, non-compeitive tennis games, as well as weekly nights out and regular sober socials. So don't fear there is something for everyone!
For 2023/24, we will be running the following sessions each week for our BUCS players:
- Tuesday - 8:00 to 10:00 - Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club
- Friday - 14:00 to 16:00 - Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club
- Sunday - 15:00 to 17:00 - Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club
Tuesday and Friday sessions are led by our Head Coach (Danny Lea; LTA Level 4) and are aimed at improving technique, tactics and situational abilities of our players. Sunday sessions are led by our club committee and give players the chance to play matches against each other. BUCS players also receive weekly Strength & Conditioning sessions every Tuesday (17:30-18:45) by a trained member of staff from Team Hallam.
In addition to our weekly programme, team captains organise regular doubles practice sessions to prepare players for upcoming matches. Our BUCS players also attend coached sessions at Graves Tennis & Leisure Centre on a forntightly basis and are encouraged to take part in competitive box leagues that we organise.
If you are interested in playing BUCS during the 2023/24 season, please email our club captains Pablo Mills (email@example.com) and Chloe Gallagher (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
DEVELOPMENT & SOCIAL TENNIS
If competitive tennis is not for you quite yet, or you just want to try a new sport for the first time and meet new friends in a welcoming, no-pressure environment, then our development & social tennis programme is perfect! We run development squad training sessions to help you improve your skills and progress onto our BUCS programme in the future. Don't worry if you are new to the sport, our weekly social tennis session will provide you the opportunity to come and play tennis in a fun and relaxing setting. Our non-competitive tennis programme for 2023/24 is:
- Development squad training - Tuesday 19:00 to 20:30 - Rustlings Lawn Tennis Club **
- Social tennis session - Sunday 12:00 to 14:00 - Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club
** Development squads are selected at our welcome session (22nd September 2023). If you are unable to attend this session, please email our chairman Will Gurton (email@example.com) and he will discuss your tennis experience and options for getting involved with our club.
Social tennis sessions are £2.50 each time, or free with an all-inclusive gym membership. Please book using the online booking system on shu.ac.uk/socialsport prior to showing up to Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Tennis.
